Tabula Rasa publishes short stories, poems and creative non-fiction. Published pieces will be available free on this website to be loved, shared and discussed.
We accept submissions all year round. We publish any genre, from romance to crime to speculative fiction and Young Adult. Make sure your work is polished, engaging and easy-to-read. We particularly like pieces that are entertaining, quirky, insightful or shocking. And we give extra special attention to pieces with an Australian flavour, however that may manifest.
We will consider previously published work with copyright permission from the publisher. This is your chance to get those anthology stories back out into the light!

What’s in it for you?
We do not pay contributors (or ourselves) yet. However, our vision is create a cash flow that enables us to pay writers a fair rate for their work.
In the meantime, we offer writers the opportunity to include their own promotions at the end of their works. For example, you can invite readers to buy your ebook, donate to your crowdfunding project, visit your blog or like your Facebook page.
This is a guide to each writing type. We will consider works outside these parameters, if you can convince us there is a good reason for it.
- Short stories– works can be from 50 - 5,000 words. We prefer works around 3,000 words.
- Poems – can be submitted singularly or as a suite.
- Creative non-fiction – see ‘short stories’ for word count. Note that creative non-fiction should use literary techniques and styles. We are not interested in opinion pieces or straight factual accounts.
Format of your submission
- We don't really mind. Our computer magically re-formats your writing for us.
